why did they stop making new pontiac gto's????????? will they make any more?
Supposedly, because the Holden it was designed from didn't meet more stringent American safety specs, and GM decided it wasn't worth the extra cost of reworking the American version for a car that wasn't selling well. Or that the Holden was being redesigned, and GM decided it wasn't worth creating the left-hand drive version for America. That's two of the versions of the story I've heard, and in either case, it all comes down to cost. GM wasn't making enough on GTOs to have it be worth the money invested.
Originally it was that Holden was discontinuing the car that the GTO was based on, but I think now they were referring to a redesign that GM was unwilling to carry over to the American version.
